No Need To Roll Dough – Just Press For An Amazing Homemade Pie!
Easy Delicious Apple Pie
Although it may feel more like a fall dessert, we're fans of apple pie anytime of the year. This one is really easy to make and your home will smell amazing as it bakes. You might also substitute peaches or pears for the apples – yet another favorite!
Ingredients
- 2 cups organic flour of choice
- 3/4 – 1 cup maple sugar or turbinado sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon good salt
- 1 egg yolk, beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup butter; melted
- 1/2 cup Simply Ghee; melted – reserve 2 tablespoons
- 8 medium sized apples; peeled, cored and sliced – use a combo of tart and sweet apples
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup – for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350F!
- In a medium size bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt together.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk, stir in the vanilla and then add both melted ghee and butter into the bowl. Combine well.
- Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, making sure they're well combined.
- Press half of the mixture into a glass pie plate, making sure to evenly distribute on the bottom and sides of the plate. Make sure there are no holes.
- Layer the sliced apples over the crust. With each layer drizzle some maple syrup over it and then sprinkle the cinnamon. Amount is up to you.
- Crumble the remaining dough on the top by breaking it into clumps. Finish with another drizzle of maple syrup and sprinkle of cinnamon.
- Bake at 350F for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until the apples are to your desired tenderness. Test them with a fork. Also watch the top for browning and remove once its a golden color.
- Remove from oven and brush with the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted ghee.
- Allow to cool to a warm temperature. Serve alone, with whip cream or ice cream.
Notes
If slicing the apples ahead of time, soak them in lemon water to keep them from turning brown.
If you find the apples are not tender enough towards the end of the bake time and yet the top is becoming too brown, just lightly cover the top with foil.
When adding the maple syrup just drizzle – don’t over saturate it.
Everyone’s taste are different so add as little or as much cinnamon to your preference. Happen to love it so the sprinkles are definitely noticeable on each layer.
